The Greatest woes of Communication ….

A great saying regarding the communication is :

“ The biggest communication problem is we don’t listen to understand.  We listen to reply. Pause yourself and think one more time.”

One of my friends sent this message to me through Whatsapp and I don’t know who has coined these golden words but after reading these words, I was surprised and amazed after going through these words.  This simple sentence has deep meaning itself.

These words have cent percent relevance.  In our daily life, whether we are in office or at home, we listen only to reply –so that we can defend ourselves.   Sometimes, we give reply in the middle of the conversation without listening the entire thing and often its backfires.

Sometime at Home, we immediately reacts to our relatives without listening them properly and later on, we realized our mistake and same thing happened in our office too.

The thumb rule of effective communication is – First Listen carefully and understand it and then react, only if it is necessary.

My advice is , first listen very carefully , understand it thoroughly for the intention of the communication and then reply it.   We are always in a hurry to replying.  Start Pausing yourself before replying , it will definitely keeps you above from the rest.

George Bernad Shaw further added through this quote , “ The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.”

Youth Day …. It is Swami Vivekanand’s birthday

Narendranath Datta was born on 12th Jan,1863 in Kolkatta, West Bengal ( India) and later , he became Swami Vivekananad and his thoughts always inspire and guide the youth all around the world.

He gave a talisman in his following quote to get the success in professional life.

Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life; dream of it; think of it; live on that idea. Let the brain, the body, muscles, nerves, every part of your body be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success, and this is the way great spiritual giants / leaders are produced.”

This is a very powerful talisman for everyone.  If you want to excel in your life, you have to design your goal in such a way that every activities of your life revolve around that goal until it is not achieved.

In one another quote, the great saint of India says , “ Arise, Awake , stop not until your goal is achieved.”

His speech on the Parliament of world religion on 11th Sep, 1893 at Chicago , USA where he addressed the crowd with famous beginning of “ Sisters and Brothers of America “ was a milestone in his 39 years short Journey from 1863 to 1902.

The Inspiring Story of Tiny Frog....A must read Story

There once was a bunch of tiny frogs, ..who arranged a running competition. The goal was to reach the top of a very high tower. A big crowd had gathered around the tower to see the race and cheer on the contestants... The race began... Honestly...No one in the crowd really believed that the tiny frogs would reach the top of the tower. You heard statements such as:"Oh, WAY too difficult!!! " They will NEVER make it to the top!!!" or:"Not a chance that they will succeed. The tower is too high!!!"
The tiny frogs began collapsing. One by one...Except for those, who in a fresh tempo, were climbing higher and higher... The crowd continued to yell, "It is too difficult!!! No one will make it!!!" More tiny frogs got tired and gave up...But ONE continued higher and higher and higher...This one wouldn't give up!!! At the end everyone else had given up climbing the tower. Except for the one tiny frog who, after a big effort, was the only one who reached the top! THEN all of the other tiny frogs naturally wanted to know how this one frog managed to do it?A contestant asked the tiny frog how he had found the strength to succeed and reach the goal?
It turned out...That the winner was DEAF!!!The wisdom of this story is:NEVER listen to other people's tendencies to be negative or pessimistic... Because they take your most wonderful dreams and wishes away from you...the ones you have in your heart!!!Always think of the power words have . Because everything you hear and read will affect your actions!!!
Moral : ALWAYS be...POSITIVE!!!
This is forwarded to me and this is my moral responsibility to share it with you.

Is Gandhian’s Talisman relevant today ………….

When I was in school, we were used NCERT book and every NCERT book has a special page in which , the Gandhi’s talisman was printed and we used to read it many times.  But I was not so much aware about that what actually Mr. Gandhi wants to say by this talisman.  Years has been gone and yesterday, when my daughter brought a book and when I was flipping the pages of that book, I saw this talisman once again.  I read it again after many years.  I felt very good and I was gone into deep thinking.  Now, somewhere, I felt that I am able to understand the meaning and importance of this talisman.

"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test : Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man [woman] whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him [her]. Will he [she] gain anything by it? Will it restore him [her] to a control over his [her] own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to swaraj [freedom] for the hungry and spiritually starving millions?  Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."”

Try to read it many times as you can , you feel something is melting  inside you and you will start recalling some incidents of your life and feel it.

Why I am illustrating this thought in this forum?  This is a big question.  But I feel, this talisman is strongly applicable in this corporate arena.  Think about it and you can feel the importance of this talisman.

This talisman can give you some guidelines to you whenever you are creating or implementing some policies or guidelines across the company and you have to think about the effect of policy to the lowest or bottom leveled employee of your company.  Although , I know, this is not very practical in today’s world but if you really want to make a company people centric and believe people are the best assets and every individual contribute a lot in the progress of the company then you realize the importance of this talisman.

My suggestion :  Read it once , think twice and take the best from it wherever you can.

Today is 29th October- A special day for computer Networking

We all are living in the era of computer networking and today, we cannot think to live without it.
This is the day in 1969, when the first ever computer to computer link was established on ARPANET ( Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) in US.

The first message which was transmitted between computers was , “Login” but only the word “ L” and “O” were successfully transmitted from host computer to another computer before crashing of the system but then after one hour, the message is successfully transmitted.

The first message on the ARPANET was sent by UCLA student programmer Charles S Kline at 10:30 pm on October 29, from the campus’ Boelter Hall to the Stanford Research Institute's SDS 940 host computer.

Another milestone occurred on Nov 22, 1977- The first date where three network transmission took place among SRI International, Menlo Park and University of Southern California via London , England and the network involved ARPANET , the bay area packet radio network and Atlantic Packet Satellite Network.

Rest is History now and we all are connected today because of this day.
